Reared in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, Baylor developed an early appreciation for the relationship between history, architecture, and the ways people inhabit space. Surrounded by historic homes, rice plantations, and the enduring influence of traditional Southern design, he became fascinated by the stories embedded within objects, buildings, and landscapes.

That interest led him to Appalachian State University, where he studied Archaeology. While an unconventional path to interior design, the discipline reinforced a lifelong interest in material culture — the relationship between people, objects, and the environments they create.

After university, Baylor spent six years dealing in the world of high-end European antiques in western North Carolina, developing a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, provenance, and the enduring beauty of well-made objects. Alongside his work with antiques, he expanded his experience in residential design, renovations, and project management, helping clients create homes that feel both personal and timeless.

Today, through Abbott Design & Interiors, Baylor draws upon these experiences to create layered interiors that balance history and modernity, architecture and decoration, collected objects and everyday living. His work is guided by the belief that the most compelling homes are not simply designed — they are assembled over time, shaped by the lives, interests, and stories of the people who inhabit them.

Outside the studio, he enjoys cooking, entertaining, playing rugby and Australian Rules football, classic films, and exploring the people, places, and objects that continue to inspire his work.
